Want to Try At-Home Waxing? Start here!

How hard is it to wax myself?

The idea of at-home waxing may seem daunting at first, but we promise it’s not nearly as difficult as it sounds! As with most things in life, practice makes perfect. If you’re feeling a little intimated at the start, ask for help from a family member, or have an at-home spa day with your best friends! It may take a little while for you to get as good as the pros, but with time (and a little trial and error) you will find the perfect wax regimen to suit your needs.

What do I need to start?

Before you can get down to waxing, you’re going to need to choose the wax that is right for you! There are many different types of wax available on the market and it can become overwhelming trying to figure out which wax is best. At Parissa, we pride ourselves on producing only natural products that are as good for you as they are for the environment. So, whether you choose from the Parissa Hot Wax, the Warm Wax or something gentler from the Parissa Sugar Wax collection you can be sure that you are getting only the best that at-home waxing has to offer. Parissa also carries a wide range of beginner-friendly wax strip kits, with a variety of shapes and sizes for wherever you want to remove hair!

Hair type and body area are not the only factors to keep in mind when selecting a wax. Parissa provides many different waxes to suit your lifestyle choices, including vegan wax, organic wax, and beginner-friendly wax options!

While some accessories are essential to the waxing process, such as epilation strips, spatulas, and the Parissa Ultra Soothe Oil, other accessories, like the Parissa Mini Pro Wax Warmer, are optional but guaranteed to improve your at-home waxing experience. The Parissa Mini Pro Wax Warmer is easy to use, small enough to fit into even the tiniest bathrooms (or wherever you choose to set up), and will maintain temperature and consistency to keep you from running back to the kitchen to reheat your wax mid-session!

Read and learn!

You may be asking yourself “do I really need to read the instructions inside my at-home waxing kit?” and the answer is always YES! Even if you have tried at-home waxing before, every wax is different, so it is imperative to follow the guidelines laid out in the instructions for each wax you try.

Taking the time to learn the proper techniques and aftercare will give you the best results in the end and keep you from potentially hurting yourself. For more thorough instructions and tutorials check out our website, YouTube, or your favourite aesthetician (we love @waxed_by_lindaaa and @livelovebeautysc)!

Be patient

Like any beauty routine, the more you wax the more relaxed and proficient you will become. Waxing consistently and regularly not only leaves you with smoother skin immediately after a session, but will result in thinner, finer hair, and less hair regrowth over time, as the hair follicle becomes discouraged from growing back. You may not be perfect the first time you wax, but the more you wax the better you will become, and the less often you will need to do it!

In the meantime, make sure to exfoliate regularly with the Ingrown Rescue Kit and use the Parissa Ultra Soothe Oil. after each waxing session to prevent ingrown hairs, inhibit bacteria growth and ensure hydrated skin!

Confidence is key!

Believe it or not, the fear of hurting yourself is more likely to cause you pain than simply waxing with confidence! Most negative wax results are due to improper usage, rather than any issue with the product itself. When you hesitate and pull the wax off too slowly, not only will the pain increase but no hair will be removed - all that pain for nothing! Be brave, take a few deep breaths and think about zipping off a Band-Aid! It really doesn’t hurt that bad in the end.

At-home waxing isn’t nearly as scary as it seems. It may take a couple of tries before you feel comfortable, but you are more than capable of getting the results you want in the comfort of your own home. Quick. Simple. Smooth. You’ve got this, and we’ve got you!
