How to Clean Spilled Wax

How to Clean Spilled Wax

It's happened to all us: you're on your way to getting the perfect at-home wax, and what do you know, you spill hot wax all over your bathroom tile. Not to worry! There are some easy ways to remove waxes from any surface.

How to Avoid Wax Spills

There are a couple things you can do to avoid wax spilling altogether. Before waxing, try laying a sheet or towel under you to catch any spills, drips or dribbles. You can also place your wax on a compostable or paper plate that you can discard if the jar tips or the wax spills. It’s also best to avoid waxing near carpet, as those pesky carpet spills are the most difficult to get out. After waxing, make sure the lid of your wax is on tight. You can always clean the jar with oil or water as well to make sure that there’s no residue wax on it.

How to Clean Hot and Warm Waxes

First off, the method to remove the wax will depend on what type of wax you're using. Most waxes contain resin, which is the sticky substance that comes out of some kinds of trees. These resin-based waxes can be removed with some type of household oil like coconut, olive, vegetable, canola, or baby oil, just to name a few. The Azulene Oil is also a method to both soothe the skin after waxing and to remove any wax leftover on the skin.

If you’re using a Hot or Hard Wax, these can usually be a little easier to clean since they dry and you can peel them off surfaces like candle wax. If you find that’s not working, you may find heating up the wax first can help with cleaning it. Use a hairdryer to heat up and softens the wax before cleaning.

How to Clean Sugar Wax

If you're using wax that's sugar-based, you can luckily just clean it up with water. Because the wax is made of sugar, it's water-soluble and can be cleaned off a lot easier than its resin counterparts. Try using warm water and a paper or cloth towel to wipe away the wax. For Large Spills

No matter what wax you’re using, if you’ve got a large spill, try to quickly scoop or scrape up as much of the wax with your waxing spatula. The less wax you have to clean, the quicker and easier the process.
