Precautions & Tips

General waxing tips Parissa Salon waxes (Resin Based)

  • Do not heat wax on open flame. Do not leave wax unattended on heat – boiling or spillage may cause fire.

  • Before you start, do a patch test.

When using new beauty products always test for allergies. How? Apply a small amount of wax to your skin, wait 24 hours. If no redness or irritation occurs it’s OK to go ahead and use the product.

  • Do not bathe, wash or clean skin before waxing.

The skin’s natural oils provide a buffer between wax and skin.

  • Sparingly applying some talc (soft) powder to the area is an option, this can help keep the skin dry in warmer weather.
  • Don’t wax over the same area more than once during a single waxing session.
  • Previously shaved hair can be stubbly and resistant. Wait for at least two weeks hair growth (½ cm or ¼”) before waxing.
  • Avoid waxing before or after strenuous exercise.
  • Remove any wax left on skin with the Azulene aftercare oil included in the kit (or other gentle oils such as baby oil or mineral oil).

Warnings: Always Follow Parissa's Waxing Instructions.

Improper use of waxes can cause skin lifting, bruising or skin irritation. If in doubt, contact Parissa before waxing for extra instructions or advice.

  • Do not wax sensitive, sunburned, irritated, broken or injured skin.
  • Avoid waxing over varicose veins, moles, warts or other skin irregularities.
  • Do not use alcohol or astringents before or after waxing.
  • Do not use beauty or cosmetic products on the skin immediately after waxing.
  • Do not use deodorants or antiperspirants for 24 hours after underarm waxing.
  • Do not wax skin treated with vitamin A derivatives such as Retin A, Isotretinoin (Accutane) or Glycolic Acid or Alpha Hydroxy Acid products.
  • Do not sunbathe before or after waxing.

Clean any excess wax remaining on the skin with Azulene Oil. Other gentle oils such as baby oil or mineral oil will also work just fine to clean away wax. Parissa salon waxes (Resin Based) will not clean away with water, they are oil soluble.

Some redness after waxing is normal. Most people experience some level of temporary pinkness or redness to the skin after waxing. Depending on the area waxed and the hair type (fine or coarse) this should disappear in 20 minutes to a few hours. If irritation and redness persists, discontinue use. High skin sensitivity may occur after first use, but can decrease with each waxing session as the hair grows back sparser, finer and weaker.

For the Hot Wax

  • How do I heat the wax? You can heat the wax on your stove on low or using our Parissa Wax Warmer. You can find specific heating instructions on the instruction sheet that comes with the wax.
  • What is the wax made of? Parissa Hot Wax is made with all-natural ingredients: gum rosin, beeswax, azulene, and canola oil. That’s it!
  • Can I reuse the wax? We don’t recommend reusing and reheating the Hot Wax once it has removed hair.
  • Why didn’t my package come with any strips? Our Hot/Hard Wax is strip-free, meaning you don’t need strips to use the wax. You apply the wax hot and wait for the wax to cool. The wax then ‘becomes’ the strip and grabs the hair to be removed.
  • How do I know the wax is the right temperature? When the wax feels like a thick honey, it’s at the right temperature. If it falls off the spatula very easily or is too hot when you do a patch test, let it cool for a minute or two. Our How to Use Parissa Hot Wax video does a great job of showing the consistency the wax should be at.
  • The wax stretches when I try to remove it from the skin. What am I doing wrong? You’re most likely not letting the wax cool for long enough. Make sure to only remove the wax if it cools enough not to be tacky to the touch.
  • The wax cracks when I try to take it off. What am I doing wrong? You’re most likely applying too thin of a layer for it to remove easily. Hard/Hot Wax should be applied in a thick layer for it to work best.
  • The wax gets everywhere when I try to apply it. What am I doing wrong? It’s probably a bit too hot. Let it cool for a minute or two and when the wax stays on the spatula without quickly running off, it’s ready to use. Hot/Hard wax can be messy at times, so we suggest before waxing putting down an old towel or sheet that you don’t mind getting dirty.
  • Can I buy refills for the Hot Wax? Absolutely! Check out our Hot Wax Refills.

For the Warm Wax

  • The wax doesn’t stick to the strip and won’t come off my skin. What am I doing wrong? Most likely, you’re not removing the strip fast enough. The quicker the strip is removed, the better the results. Make sure to remove the strip parallel to the skin and not directly upward.
  • The Warm Wax isn’t removing hair. What am I doing wrong? A couple of things could be happening if the wax isn’t removing your hair:
    • You’re not applying the wax in the same direction as hair growth: This is the best way to adhere the wax to the hair for removal. Remember to remove the strip in the opposite direction of hair growth.
    • Your hair isn’t long enough: Previously shaved hair can be stubbly and resistant. Wait for at least two weeks hair growth (½ cm or ¼”) before waxing.
    • You’re not applying a paper-thin layer: This is the most effective way to remove the hair.
  • Can I reuse the epilation strips? You can definitely reuse the strips until they are no longer effective at removing hair. Unfortunately, with the Warm Wax, there is no way for removing the wax from the strip. If you’d like to reuse the wax strips, check out our Sugar Waxes, they wash right off!
  • Is the Warm Wax Vegan? Yes! Our Warm Wax is simply made with Pine Resin, Gum Rosin, and Canola Oil. All our products are also certified cruelty free.
  • How do I clean off extra wax on the skin left over? The Azulene Oil included in your kit does a great job of removing any wax residue. If you run out of Azulene Oil, you can use any household oil to remove wax (coconut oil, olive oil, canola oil, etc.).
