DeMystifying Waxing
What is it about the topic of waxing that brings out rumours, myths and horror stories? We think it's time to get that big hairy monster out from under the bed and debunk a few follicular fallacies, so here's The Waxing Guru speaking the truth about your unwarranted waxing worries.
Waxing Myth: "If I start waxing, my hair will grow back darker and thicker"
Guru Truth: "This is the exact opposite of what really happens. Each time you remove your hair from the root, as you do with waxing, you render the follicle less able to develop a good strong hair - meaning your re-growth is finer, softer, weaker AND grows back more slowly. Over time, your hair becomes sparser, thinner and considerably less apparent."
Waxing Myth: "Personal grooming is for gay men or body builders"
Guru Truth: "Many of my female clients often complained about their boyfriend's lack of grooming, particularly excessive back hair, unruly brows or nether regions. Here's a simple rule of thumb to follow, guys: if you want someone to spend time somewhere - make it a nice place to be."
Waxing Myth: "I'm afraid to try because it will hurt"
Guru Truth:"Hurt more than wearing high heels all day at work? Here's the most honest answer there is: pulling your hair out from the root is bound to have a little ouch factor, but not more-so than taking off a bandage. The first time you wax will likely be the most sensitive, but I promise it gets easier over time. Besides, the discomfort only lasts for a couple seconds and the smooth results last for weeks."
Waxing Myth: I know someone who knows someone who tore her skin off with wax.
Guru truth: "Well, as with anything, doing it correctly will prevent mistakes. With waxing, it's important to follow the instructions to prevent potential skin lifting or bruising. Here's a few guidelines to follow: Don't go over the same are more than once during a waxing session. Don't wash your skin right before waxing, you have natural oils that protect your skin surface. Always do a test patch and wait 24 hours first before proceeding, to make certain that you won't experience any kind of reaction. Waxing Myth: I could never wax myself at home, too messy, and too difficult.
Guru Truth: "My motto is that if you can reach it, you can wax It. It's all about choosing the right product for you. If you're a beginner, I suggest starting with Express Wax Strips - they are pre-waxed and ready to use, just press on and zip off. There's no heating or fussing required (they're also terrific for travel and touch-ups)."
